The Best Time of the Year

It finally snowed in Greeley today. It was the greatest feeling waking up this morning, looking outside and seeing everything covered in pure white snow! It pretty much snowed all day which we were perfectly happy with. Chris and I saw the 61st Warren Miller film: Wintervention a few weeks ago. By far, the best WM film I have seen! We can't wait to hit the slopes within the next few months, it's going to be a great season!

Chris and I have been working a lot lately, which is great! We have both been working M-F in the day so we have our evenings together. Unfortunately, my hours go from 40 to about 20 next week which is not good. I am currently looking for another job to start in January. This Nanny job won't cover the bills for much longer. I applied to Starbucks and will be turning in resume's to some child care places on Monday. I also have a meeting at a Christian foster care agency on Monday, as well. I am excited to get involved in that field again. Please pray I will be able to find another job and that everything will work out! So far it has. :)

The official countdown to my birthday is 28 days from today! I cannot wait to be 21; it is like the final birthday where you have no more restrictions. I could check into some hotels, work at the foster care agency, and be allowed to order a wine with dinner if I desire. It is crazy to think I will be 21 soon, I do not feel (or look) that old (Chris isn't far behind either)! There's some exciting events going on the weekend of my birthday: Apryl is coming to visit, shopping spree in Denver, dinner at a restaurant, birthday parties, Scrooge play in the Springs, and of course some good drinks.

All in all, November and December are my two favorite months of the year. Chris and I are really looking forward to spending the holidays together as husband and wife. It really is the best time of the year; you've got good friends and family to spend the two greatest holidays with, good food,  good snow, and good times.

Prayer Requests:
-New job for Bri in January
-Financial provision (money is tight right now)
-Fairly stress free holidays
-Direction for Chris and Bri's schooling

Harrington Adventures!

Since the last post, Chris and I have gone on a few adventures! We visited the Fritzler farm in La Salle Colorado to pick out a pumpkin! It was a lot of fun-we had never been to a farm together! This farm is one of the famous ones in Colorado. Their corn field is a different design each year; this year it is a tribute to our troops! We may go back with Chris' parents when they come up next weekend and do the corn maze and the other attractions! This pumpkin farm was really cool though, there were acres of pumpkins. Big, small, red, striped, orange, white pumpkins! We even got to cut ours off the vine!!

The week after we got to go to Denver to celebrate Bethany's birthday! It was the four of us: Alex, Bethany, Chris and I. We went to Northfield which is a really nice outdoor shopping mall in northern Denver! We had Cold Stone first (dessert before dinner is allowed on birthdays! ;) ) then we visited some of the shops and ended our day with dinner at Jim N Nicks BBQ! It was sooo delicious, I highly recommend it! You get unlimited rolls, yum!! It was so good to see them, it had been over a month! Hopefully we'll be able to get together soon, especially with the holidays coming up! Yay! Next weekend we get to see Chris' parents and then in early November my parents and sister are coming up to visit, as well. I am definitely looking forward to the last weeks of 2010: visiting with family, the holidays, classes are ending, seeing Apryl and MY 21st BIRTHDAY!!!

Jobs are going well. My ears were burning one night I guess and I decided to look around for jobs again; I applied to Starbucks in Target but haven't heard back about that yet. I hope something will come up soon because the next day at my Nanny job she said the last day they would need me would be October 20th! Thankfully, she passed my information along to one of her friends/coworkers and I'll be watching a 3-year old boy 3 days a week. I am glad I still have something but unfortunately it's less hours and about $300 less a month. I am stressing out but trusting God that He will provide for Chris and I. He has so far so that is comforting! Chris is in the process of moving up to a full-time position at Office Depot, hopefully it happens soon! (Please pray that I can find an additional part-time job!)

Chris and I have been doing some decorating around the apartment to make it a little more "home-y." We bought curtains for the living room and bedroom. Our bedroom curtains are blackout curtains that block out all the light that was coming into our room and it keeps the heat in and the cold out! I pretty much love them, and the color too! They match the comforter! We've also been hanging some picture frames and other wall art. I went to Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Wal-Mart today to look for a shadow box for my wedding bouquet but NO LUCK! With all three stores there were no shadow boxes-can you think of another place they might be???

Fall is Definitely In the Air!

Fall is definitely in the air here in Greeley-finally! There have been cooler days with some rain and clouds and at a local produce store, Sprouts, there are all kinds of squash and pumpkins! I'm trying to look up soup and stew recipes that have a fall taste-yum! I would have to say fall is definitely my favorite season! I love the food, the decorations, the colors, crunchy leaves, and cooler weather! I can't wait until it's actually cold enough to wear sweaters, scarves and cute coats; with October in a week it will be here very soon! Chris and I were thinking of having a pumpkin carving party in a few weeks! We would have a few friends over, BYOP (Bring Your Own Pumpkin), and some snacks and drinks! We've never had our own place to entertain friends and we're itching to host the first one! Before the party though, Chris and I will probably go to a local pumpkin patch/corn maze farm and pick a pumpkin. :) We've never done that before... and we've never been to the zoo-can you believe that?! We have a bucket list going!!

Since the last post Chris and I were tested on, "In Sickness and In Health." I got sick first, thankfully it was only a 24 hour bug but it was the worst; it was like the mini flu. I am so glad Chris was there to take care of me! I am not sure what made me sick but it was the second time since getting married; I have some theories as to the cause and one of them is tomatoes. Maybe I have developed an allergy to them? Who knows! But I am eliminating raw tomatoes from my diet for the next month and seeing if I get sick again or not. (Pray I don't!!!) About a week later Chris got sick too, he had the same symptoms as me (minus the fever) but it only lasted for 24 hours too. Maybe it's stress, the neighbors, germs, cold weather, who knows!
Pray for health!!

Unfortunately, due to being sick we never got to go see the aspens changing in Estes but it will be there next year. Instead we went to go see a movie (which we haven't done since the honeymoon), we saw, "You Again." It was a really good movie and brought back memories from middle school and high school for both of us-good and bad! It was a good conversation starter AND it was good to go on a date! It's so funny, before we got married we would always go on a date: Starbucks, movies, restaurants, etc. We went out and did stuff, but now that we're married we mostly stay at our place: cooking, playing games, watching Seinfeld, etc. But it was just so great to actually dress up and go out! :) Pretty crazy how your perception of dates change once you get married! Today we received the cd with all of our wedding pictures-so exciting! I cannot wait to print of my favorites and display them in the apartment! Time to get decorating!

Work continue to goes well for Chris and I and I've sold a few products through Avon! I'm praying that it really starts to take off-especially with the holiday season just around the corner! Which reminds me: exactly 3 months until Christmas, from today! And only 11 weeks until my birthday! I absolutely love this time of year, it is so exciting!! :) I definitely have not started any Christmas shopping but I'm going to have to think creatively this year with a small budget!

Enjoy the cooler days, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, crunchy leaves and the orange glow of this season!
Happy Fall!

Making Our Happily Ever After...

It has been one and a half months since Chris and I tied the knot-can you believe that?! It seems like forever ago, yet at the same time it really doesn't! We are still loving Greeley. It continues to stay hot though; yesterday we set a record high of 93 degrees... IN SEPTEMBER!! Hopefully it will start to cool off soon. Speaking of cooling off, that reminds me of snow, which reminds me of snowboarding. I just checked out Warren Miller show times for this winter season. Should Chris and I go see it in the Springs or the Loveland/Fort Collins area? Hmm...

This was my first week of work and I loved it! I didn't love waking up at 5am though and working an almost 10 hour day but the little girl, Lauren, is absolutely adorable. She is probably the most easy-going baby I have ever known. But Chris and I are thankful we both have jobs now and at the rate we are making money we are making about $400 each month over our needed budget. Praise God! He is really taking care of us and providing everything that we need. We are continuing to love Christ Community Church here in Greeley and we are going through a great series right now! We are studying Genesis 1 and 2 together. I cannot begin to describe to you the first sermon of the series; it was eye-opening and just amazing. If you are curious check out the sermon here: http://cccgreeley.org/321339.ihtml (9/12/10)

Yesterday we made Dad's Dip and Grandma Harrington's Famous Spaghetti. Both secret family recipes and they both turned out delicious and perfect. We love cooking together and Chris is still teaching me techniques: I know how to cut things with a big knife all fancy now! We are still trying to come up with things to put on our weekly menus... Have any ideas??? It is so tempting just to get a pizza or go to Taco Bell but homemade meals are so much better but it's hard to come up with stuff to make because the cookbooks can become overwhelming. Ahh!!

Please continue praying for Chris and I. That our marriage would continue to be wonderful and that God will continue to bless it. That we would enjoy our jobs and work with servant's hearts; when Chris has to deal with an angry customer or when I am so exhausted it's hard to play with the baby. Pray that Chris and I will continue to lean on each other and on God and that we would trust in Him to provide for us. Pray that I can figure out what is wrong with my car this weekend! Thank you for the prayers. :) We appreciate them so much.

"That's My Tent!"

The 4th Annual Harrington Camp Out was a lot of fun! It was so great to see everyone-it had been almost a month! Once we arrived at the Crags Campground it was time to set up camp! Chris and I received a tent from his parents at our virtual wedding shower in July and were eager to use it! It was a great little tent and easy to put up... once we knew how! Our tent has a little "grommet" at the back of the tent that functions as a very tiny window, very cute! After camp was set up we relaxed for a bit and waiting for Bethany and Alex to arrive; once they did it was time to cook dinner! That night we had steak grilled over a campfire with baked potatoes, salad, and banana bread! It was soooo delicious! Once the sun set it was ridiculously cold; coming from 95+ degree heat I was frozen!! I was very thankful for the sun to come back the next morning and warm everything up... just a little bit.

The next day we went on a hike up to the Crags-it's about 3 miles round trip so not bad at all! However, Chris and I definitely felt the altitude; we usually don't since the campground is only about a 3000ft gain in elevation from Colorado Springs. Since we came from Greeley which is about 4000ft it was more like a 6000ft elevation gain. Who knows though, it takes various times to get acclimated to higher altitudes but we definitely felt winded when we went hiking! Phew! On the way back down to the campground, Chris and I stopped at our tree to add '10. It's so cool to come back to the tree each year and see how our past carvings have "aged." We cannot wait to go camping again next year and add '11. Plus the camping part is fun too!!

This week I am meeting with an Avon Representative to get signed up to sell the products! My mom does it and it is an easy way to make just a few extra bucks while enjoying discounts on make-up! I am also meeting the family I am going to nanny for on Friday for a "trial day!" Pray that this goes well! Chris continues to enjoy his job and is receiving a lot of great customer reviews! That's my hubby!!

It's a quiet week this week, but we are still enjoying every minute of being married, we wouldn't trade it for anything!

Does anyone have any favorite fall recipes they'd like to share? Meats, breads, veggies (squash recipes!), etc?! :)

Fall is Near!

Fall Leaves Beautiful Autumn 31000Fall is definitely near because there are many signs: shorter days, cooler temperatures, leaves turning yellow, school starting and the best one of all: Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks!!! I have not enjoyed this delicious drink yet but I will soon. Perhaps after my first paycheck. No, I did not get the job at Buckle-they actually have very poor management so I am glad I'm not working there. I have a profile on Care.com and a mother contacted me to watch her 10-month old daughter for about 30 hours a week. I have to do an interview but I am sure this is the job God wants for me. Kids have been a part of my life for...well, my entire life! Chris kept saying how I can make a huge impact on this child and the family-kind of crazy to think about! :) Please be praying that this is the job for me!!

I started my math class today and received my textbook-perfect timing! I am excited for the semester to start but also nervous since math is not my strong subject. But since it is the only class I am taking I can devote all my time to this one awful subject. I am feeling more confident than not, so I guess that's a good thing!

Chris and I are super excited to go to our 4th Annual Harrington Camping Trip! We are going with Chris' parents: Mindy and Dave and his sister and brother-in-law: Bethany and Alex! There will be good food and lots of fun games. Chris and I have an aspen tree that we carved our names into in 2007 and each year since we have added: 08, 09, and this year we will add: Wed on 7.30.10. This tree is very special to us!!

Today is marks the one month anniversary of Chris and I getting married! Time has flown by!! We have started brainstorming fun things to do in the summer together. Next year we want to go hiking in the Grand Canyon with my best friend Apryl and her boyfriend, Benjamin. The year after that we want to go on an Alaskan cruise! Eventually we will go to Ireland but all of this will happen before we decide to have kids! Oh and we also thought of how we are going to break the news to everyone WHEN we are pregnant. No... we are not pregnant yet and have no desire to be yet! :)

Well, Chris is about to ride his bike to work today and I need to do some studying so we can enjoy our vacation this weekend! Thank you for reading!

Life Lately...

Chris and I have been receiving packages in the mail lately: a rice cooker, an apple slicer and a cake platter-even our internet!! It's quite exciting to receive mail with "Bri and Chris Harrington" on the front. Bri has received both her social security card and driver's license with her new name on it-how exciting! We were also excited to receive our rice cooker and it was so nice to have rice again-I'm so Asian! We made 4 cups of rice which lasted us for about 4 bowls of rice-each! We have also received a cake platter as a wedding present from some friends-I was very happy about that because now we have a cake platter for the delicious Harrington Chocolate Birthday Cake! My birthday is a little over 3 months away so we had to be prepared. ;)

Life in Greeley continues to be exciting. We visited a new church Saturday night: Christ Community Church. Smaller than Woodmen and a bit different but we loved the sermon. The pastor, Alan Kraft talked about us being the Bride and making herself ready for when Jesus comes back. It was so relevant to Chris and I since we just got married (almost a month ago!)-we related to the sermon very well! After the service we went to the Guest Center (The Gathering Place) and met the lead pastor, Alan! He got to know us a bit and I mentioned working in Children's Ministries at Woodmen Valley and took us upstairs to see their Children's area! Let me just say, my jaw literally dropped and was amazed at the area! The entire upstairs was devoted to elementary kiddos: slides, games, a stage with awesome lights, a very energetic team who you can tell loves kids (and debriefs with each other at the end of the day), they had it all! The funny thing was is that the director wanted to pick my brain about Woodmen when I wanted to pick his about their ministry! Everything looked so fun and kid welcoming. I hope to get involved soon... :)

In our down time when it is so hot outside (or smelly... ;) ), Chris and I like to play Sequence. Since I finally understood the game I have been beating him! It is now my favorite game! The students of UNC are here in Greeley and you can definitely tell by their driving and by the empty shelves at Wal-Mart of the cheap food. Oh well, it's good to have some more people around our age and hopefully we can get connected with them soon through Young Life or Christ Community. :)

Tomorrow we are going to go hiking on the westside of Loveland and then next weekend we are going camping with Chris' family! Can't wait to finally enjoy the mountains and the outdoors!!!!

Continue to pray for us:
Bri-finding a job and starting school on Monday
Chris: continuing to do well at his job and finding some friends (for both of us!)
And just that we will continue to grow together as a married couple in God's story!

What's New?!

Hello Dear Readers!

We hope this blog will help you keep up with us! We didn't want to just get married, move away and never speak to or see any of you again! :) We are currently sitting in Chris' car in the Border's parking lot on their free wifi-we sound so poor! We should be getting internet within a week though-yay! We are all settled into our apartment here in Greeley and have been getting settled into this new city! The past two days we have been visiting government offices to get Bri's name changed officially to Harrington. She misses her short last name of Lo, but is excited to officially be a Harrington! Thankfully we didn't have to wait long at either place!
The people here in Greeley are very nice and are not afraid to talk to you and ask for a favor. Very different from Colorado Springs. Greeley has about 300,000 less people than the Springs and rarely has traffic, which is nice. It is A LOT hotter here though but we're getting used to it. :)

We hope you are all doing well and are enjoying much cooler weather than us (depending on where you live, Springs people *cough cough!*)

Until the next post... Much Love, Chris and Bri Harrington!
